  1. LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey on September 8, 2026.

The league's own press release frames the filing as a court-supervised restructuring tied to a Restructuring Support Agreement with BC Partners Credit. LIV says the plan is to keep the business as a going concern, move toward a player-first ownership model, and emerge from Chapter 11 in early 2027, subject to court and stakeholder approval.

Reuters (Field Level Media) reports the filing estimates assets between $100 million and $500 million and liabilities between $500 million and $1 billion. That same wire lists several star players among the largest unsecured creditors still owed past-due amounts, including Jon Rahm ($7.5 million), Bryson DeChambeau ($5.7 million), Dustin Johnson ($5.5 million), Cameron Smith ($4.8 million), Tyrrell Hatton ($3.4 million), and Brooks Koepka ($1.7 million). Those figures are claim amounts from the filing coverage, not full remaining contract values.

LIV says the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide $49.6 million in debtor-in-possession financing, subject to court approval, and that BC Partners Credit plus other minority investors are expected to provide exit financing if the plan is approved. CEO Scott O'Neil told fans the process is meant to address prior obligations and build a more sustainable next phase, with events still planned in markets such as Australia, South Africa, Mexico, Hong Kong, and England.

For simulator golfers, this is the pro-game story that changes who you watch and how team golf is sold. LIV's team format and star roster have been part of the indoor watch-and-learn conversation even when you never leave the bay. Treat league schedule claims, ownership stakes, and unpaid-claim totals as court- and company-sourced only. Do not invent which 2027 events are locked until LIV or the court calendar says so.
