ShotForge’s $6.99 course-play beta gets a hands-on test

A September 13 walkthrough from Golf Simulator Videos shows the attraction of the new feature—and some of the rough edges that come with its experimental label.

    The developer says its course library contains more than 10,000 automated layouts, generated using mapping, imagery and elevation data. The more immediate question is what happens when a golfer loads one and starts hitting shots.

    The creator uses a Square Omni launch monitor and tries approach shots, chips and putts. He demonstrates green-speed settings, gimme distances, an on-course practice mode, camera controls and a green heat map.

    There are also visible limitations described in his running commentary. A course download does not finish during the demonstration. He questions aspects of the aiming display, the apparent pace of ball flight and some generated scenery. When revisiting a course he knows, he recognizes the layout while pointing out differences in water and vegetation.

    Those observations make the video useful. It gives viewers specific things to examine instead of asking them to accept a low price as proof of a finished product. The creator includes a discount code in the description; that promotional context belongs alongside his observations, which are not a controlled laboratory comparison.

    Automated courses bring a different bargain

    ShotForge’s own course page acknowledges that automated scenery can differ from the real venue, including tree lines and hazard boundaries. It describes a process based on one-meter LiDAR elevation, satellite imagery and open map outlines. Those are the developer’s descriptions of its inputs, not a guarantee that every generated hole has equal detail.

    For a home simulator owner, the useful distinction is between access and fidelity. Being able to find a familiar course is appealing. Accurately reproducing every slope, boundary and shot response is a separate test. A large library alone cannot answer that second question.

    Check the connection before the price

    The official FAQ says ShotForge requires launch-monitor data and describes connector support in general terms. It does not establish universal compatibility. The Square Omni connection shown in this video therefore should not be treated as proof that another device will work identically.

    Start with the practical questions: can your monitor connect, do the numbers arrive reliably, and does the course behavior fit the way you want to practice? At this stage, the walkthrough supports curiosity about an inexpensive new option. It also supplies a concrete checklist for evaluating the beta on its own terms.
